Powerline Beaver Ponds

Heron balancing against wind

One warm, sunny day over Easter we hiked  Stoney Trail  to the Powerline Beaver Ponds; south of Mount Lorette about 3 km from the Stoney Trail parking area. It’s a pleasant destination for a short walk and an hour or two of relaxation watching the antics of herons who were trying to perch on the very top of the spruce trees while fighting a gusty wind. According to the local birders several pairs of herons nest here each year.
