Distance 12.0 km return, height gain 633 m, moderately strenuous
Barrier Lake Lookout atop Yates Mountain is an irresistible objective promising a fabulous view.
Start: Hwy. 40 at Barrier Dam day-use area.
Difficulty: Good well-marked trail with moderate grades apart from one short steep rocky section onto McConnell Ridge. From here the unmarked trail to the lookout is generally good. The steep section has loose footing.
Note: Prairie View has minor washouts up to fire lookout. The trail down to Jewell Pass is in good shape.

Please refer to the trail description in the guidebook, especially for unofficial, off-trail hikes.
