Distance 6.8 km return, height gain 701 m, moderately strenuous
A favourite climb with locals and keep fit enthusiasts to an open summit with panoramic views.
Start: Hwy. 66 (Elbow Falls Trail) at Beaver Lodge parking lot located on the left side of the highway just west of the winter gate. You may also park on the road just before the gate.
Difficulty: A fair to good trail with widely varying grades. Of note is the short steep start and the sustained moderately steep climb up the upper southeast ridge. Nowadays, hiked all year using spikes in the winter.
Note: Recent measurements by Gerard Lachapelle, Professor of Geomatics at U of C and avid hiker show the height of the summit above sea level to be 2205 m, accuracy 1 m.
