NORTH KENT
Distance 7.8 km one way, height gain 1106 m, strenuous
The unnamed peak at 254256 anchors the north end of Kent Ridge and is the highest point along it, nearly 300 m higher than Mount Kent. Naturally the view is 7-star with mounts Assiniboine, Sir Douglas, Joffre and King George all in one frame. Mt. Inflexible is the big yellow heap immediately to the east. What you have come for, though, is the bird’s-eye view into the head of Kent Creek. Enjoy its meadows, larches and tarns vicariously, because getting to the valley head is a something hikers rarely aspire to.
Start: Hwy. 742 (Smith-Dorrien/Spray Trail) at Sawmill day-use area.
Difficulty: An long easy ascent up moderate scree slopes. The main difficulty is finding your way up the initial old logging roads.
  • View from summit. Mount Joffre is snow peak to right.
