Distance 8.6 km loop, height gain 380 m, moderate
This is the grassy ridge above Lesueur Creek, which can be combined with Lesueuer Creek to make an 8.6 km loop back to the trailhead. The trail along the creek is an easy and beautiful traverse of open hillside and verdant valley bottomI recommend travelling east to west for views.
Start: The TransAlta Road at 2.65 km. Park on the right side of the road between the texas gate and the bridge over Lesueur Creek.
Difficulty: A rolling climb along the ridge crest between forest on the right and grassy slopes sweeping down to Lesueur Creek on the left. There are several steep, loose climbs, the result of ATV and horse traffic and 1.5 km of stony cutline.
Note: A longer version adds in the hill at 385838, which gives you a panoramic view to the west. Combined with Lesueur Ridge and creek, it makes a loop of 14.2 km back to the trailhead.
- Looking across to Black Rock Mountain from the ridge
Please refer to the trail description in the guidebook, especially for unofficial, off-trail hikes.
