Distance 6.3 km loop, height gain 86 m, easy
Bow Valley Provincial Park South. A more strenuous loop with occasional steep hills takes in the original Hwy. 40 bridge site over the Kananaskis River and the banktop above Shaugnessy Canyon. Return routes give very pleasant walking through open forest.
Start: At interchange 114A with Hwy. 1X, follow signs to Rafter Six Ranch Resort. At the 3-way junction go straight into a parking lot edged with rocks. There is no longer access from Rafter Six as the area around the ranch is now private property.
Difficulty: Easy hiking on good trails.
- All remains of the old Hwy. 40 bridge were washed away in 2013.
Please refer to the trail description in the guidebook, especially for unofficial, off-trail hikes.
