MOUNT COLLEMBOLA TRAVERSE
Distance 22.1 km return, height gain 1685 m, very strenuous
The traverse of the two summits of Mt. Collembola is a demanding ridgewalk, a much more serious undertaking than the traverse of Mt. Allan. Not because the ridge is a knife edge (far from it), but because route finding is occasionally tricky and there's one unavoidable step of exposed scrambling. I recommend traversing north to south. The area is closed between Dec 1 and Jun 21.
Start: Hwy. 1 (Trans-Canada Hwy.). At Dead Man's Flats interchange 98 follow signs to Banff Gate Mountain Resort and turn right into Wind Valley trailhead.
Difficulty: Moderately easy hiking with one short scramble.
