EAST END OF RUNDLE - EEOR
Distance 5.2 km return, height gain 875 m, strenuous
EEOR at 107598 is the easternmost peak of Mt. Rundle, the one that looms over Canmore. Above the cliff there’s a pretty good trail following the south ridge all the way to a meadow at the shoulder. A rock ridge leads up to the summit.
Start: Hwy. 742 (Smith-Dorrien/Spray Trail) at Whiteman’s Gap. Use Goat Creek parking lot.
Difficulty: An easy scramble on scree and rock, with one or two steps requiring concentration. Overall, a much more serious route than Ha Ling, with route-finding challenges.
Note: The upper section is NOT the Kane route as described in “Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies,” and Alan’s summit and my summit are different tops. That’s okay, because a lot of people nowadays are combining the two routes to make a loop.
