MOUNT SPARROWWHAWK
Distance 9.4 km return, height gain 1439 m, strenuous
Sparrowhawk’s an easy scree ascent until the final steep scrabble up the loose rubble of the southeast face, which feels a mite exposed if you’re not used to such places.
Start: Hwy. 742 (Smith-Dorrien/Spray Trail) at Sparrowhawk day-use area. Via #85 Read’s Ridge.
Difficulty: A long, unrelentingly, steep bash with considerable height gain.
Note: While the west slopes may be free of snow (usually by about mid-July), the southeast face could well be plastered with the stuff, ruining your chances of reaching the summit.
  • The summit block from the col.
