Distance 4.0 km return, height gain 330 m, moderate
The grassy western escarpment offers the shortest route to a fabulous summit viewpoint.
Start: Gorge Creek Road at Gorge Creek parking lot.
Good, flagged route and trail. Here is a track log of the best route.
Note: On entering the trees after the initial meadows, look for a flagged route that crosses the creek and climbs open slopes. Pay attention to the flagging for the first kilometre as there are numerous cow trails. If in doubt bear right. Higher up the trail is obvious.
When descending the lower section don't get sucked in to heading too far right or you will end up in a maze of muddy cow trails that lead out to the old road near a large boggy meadow.
- View from the summit.
Please refer to the trail description in the guidebook, especially for unofficial, off-trail hikes.
