Distance 12.2 km return, height gain 1250 m, strenuous
The east face of the mountain is split by a central gully (the shaft) crossed at the two thirds height by a transverse ledge. The easiest route for hikers goes up the right side of the shaft.
Start: Park off road at 710853, 5 km west of the K Country boundary. See below for a track log of the access trail from Gunnery Creek.
Difficulty: A tedious scree slog with no exposure.

Scramblers who can handle moderately difficult rock should take Andrew's route in More Scrambles — the firmer northeast ridge to the right.
