Distance 6.0 km backpack side trip, height gain 579 m, moderately strenuous
This route follows the long grassy south ridge of a hill shaped like a beached whale. Named La Butte des Fleurs — The Hill of the Flowers by R.M. Patterson after "flowers beyond all imagining", It stands aloof from the backbone of the Elk Range, its solitary position making it an excellent viewpoint.
Start: Campsites near the Lake of the Horns junction. See McPhail Creek for access information.
Difficulty: A long, moderate climb up an open hillside.
- The Hill of the Flowers from Weary Creek Gap headwall.
