Distance 9.0 km return, height gain 625 m, moderately strenuous
The highest of the Coyote Hills at 653812 hides its attractions from Hwy. 940: A long grass ridge with meadows sweeping down the western flank. The eastern approach described here is the shortest and most straightforward. You don’t approach it via the Baril Creek trail, so there’s no creek crossing to worry about.
Start: Hwy. 940 (Forestry Trunk Road). Park just north of the Baril Creek bridge on the west side of the highway below a grassy bank.
Difficulty: Easy going on old road, trail and grassy slopes.
- Looking down the north ridge.
Please refer to the trail description in the guidebook, especially for unofficial, off-trail hikes.
