Distance 7.3 km return, height gain 300 m, fairly easy
The snowshoe to Chester Lake is fairly easy, scenic and has no objective dangers. Because it is an extremely popular destination with skiers, a separate trail has been designated for snowshoers.
Start: Hwy. 742 (Smith-Dorrien-Spray Trail) at Chester Lake parking lot.
Difficulty: A moderately easy trail with a few short, steep sections.
Note: While there are several areas to explore once up at the lake you need to take care not to venture un-equipped into avalanche terrain.
Please refer to the trail description in the guidebook, especially for unofficial, off-trail hikes.
This trail is in Andrew Nugara's Snowshoeing in the Canadian Rockies
