TRYST LAKE SNOWSHOE
Distance 6.6 km return, height gain 260 m, fairly easy
A small, shaded lake in a scenic cirque. The area is well-used by skiers carving turns on the sunny avalanche slopes above the lake.
Start: 742 (Smith-Dorrien/Spray Trail). Turn west onto Mt. Shark Road. In 1 km turn left onto a side road and park a little way in. By starting from Hwy 742, 2.2 km south of Mt. Shark Road the distance can be cut down by 200 m. Hardly worth the extra effort See map
Difficulty: A short, sometimes steep, climb on good trail. See blog
Note: Lower down, the draw is obviously raked by occasional spring avalanches so don't go during or within a few days after a heavy snowfall or on a hot day in spring. Once at the lake be aware of potential avalanches from the surrounding slopes.
