WINDY POINT VIEWPOINT
Distance 10.9 km return, height gain 400 m, moderate
Windy Point is a great viewpoint for the Bow Valley and Skogan Pass area. Immediately below you in a forested gully is the birthplace of Marsh Creek. It’s a year-round spring that in sub-zero temperatures sends clouds of vapour rising above the treetops.
Start: Start: Hwy. 1 (Trans-Canada Hwy.). At Dead Man’s Flats interchange 98 follow signs to Banff Gate Mountain Resort and turn right into Wind Valley trailhead.
Difficulty: While there is a new 35’ bridge over Pigeon Creek a little upstream of the old one, there is still no bridge at Wind Creek. Head across to just before the old Wind Creek crossing and follow a trail left to a crossing place. This comes out right on the trail on the other side of the creek. Map of start
Note: The trail to Windy Point Viewpoint is closed May 1 to June 15 inclusive. The section up Wind Ridge is closed Dec 1—Jun 15. Closure map
