Distance 3.0 km return, height gain 128 m, easy
Walk through a spectacular canyon known for its pictographs. You're sure to be entertained by rock climbers.
Start: Hwy. 1A at Grotto Pond day-use area. May 2018 - the day-use area is being upgraded and should be open again by the end of June.
Difficulty: A good well marked trail initially. Then a poor trail following a stoney creekbed with many minor creek crossings on rocks. In spring run-off or after rain the creek may be impassable.
Note: There are washouts between the pond and the canyon. The canyon and valley beyond is wall to wall rock, gravel and boulders. There's no trail at all, but you can readily (if slowly) pick your way through the rubble without problems.
Please refer to the trail description in the guidebook, especially for unofficial, off-trail hikes.
