Distance 7.6 km one way, height gain 91 m, fairly easy
This section of the Trans Canada Trail, which opened with much fanfare on October 18, 1997, runs between Heart Creek parking lot and George Biggy Sr. Road at Dead Man’s Flats. Though running parallel to Hwy. 1 and within sound of traffic, it is unexpectedly hilly and has many interesting things to look at on the way.
Start: East: At Lac des Arcs interchange #105 drive to Heart Creek parking lot.
West: At Dead Man’s Flats interchange #98, follow signs to Banff Gate Mountain Resort. Park at the side of George Biggy Sr. Road just after leaving the interchange.
Difficulty: Easy hiking on good trail.
Note: At present, you can extend the hike to Stewart Creek in Three Sisters Mountain Village using #52 Quebexican. This will change when the Spring Creek area is developed 2018 or 2019.
- One of 3 sets of steps on a craggy, mossy traverse
