Distance 6.8 km loop, height gain 229 m, fairly easy
In its short distance this popular loop takes in a scenic traverse above the Sheep River, a pass and an easy ridge with great views. An excellent choice for the novice hiker.
Start: Hwy. 546 (Sheep River Trail). There are two possible starts:
1. Foran Grade parking 1.6 km west of the winter gate at Sandy McNabb Recreation Area is a pull-out on the righthand side of the road.
2. windy Point Trail parking 3.3 km west of the winter gate at a pullout on the left side of the road.
Difficulty: Easy hiking on good trail. May be muddy in sections after rain or snowmelt.
Note: This loop combines Sheep Trail, a section of Windy Point Trail and Foran Grade Ridge. It can be done in either dorection from either parking area.
