Friends of Kananaskis Country, High Rockies Trail and ESRD are planning an exceptional year of flood and non-flood related trail projects for 2015. Chairman, Derek Ryder, is projecting 45-50 volunteer trail days, 30% more than last year. They are, of course, looking for volunteers. You don’t have to be a pick-axe wielding strongman — volunteers are needed for many levels of activity, from reporting on trail conditions to digging drainage ditches. Some of the tasks from least to most strenuous are:
- Litter pickup, maintaining culverts and ditches, hand pruning and disposal, and trail condition reporting.
- Small drainage ditching and deadfall removal with hand tools, and repair/replace signage.
- Trail surfacing, bridge repair, digging/clearing drainage ditches, and large deadfall removal.
Please don’t just show up for a project. Go to Friends of Kananaskis Country website and sign up so there will be sufficient tools and equipment, and so you can be notified if there’s a change in plan.
Here are some of the projects planned so far:
Sat, May 2: Highway Clean Up (families welcome)
Fri, May 22: Jumping Pound Ridge (North)
