Just in time for the ski season, the trail has been re-routed away from the Elbow River. It now continues across the meadow and crosses the side creek much higher up onto Fullerton, so doing away with the big climb up from the drift fence. Yeah! There are still hills, a short steep one down to the 4 m-wide bridge and a gentler rise out of it that curves right, then left to join the old Elbow trail as it climbs to the Snagmore junction.
The bridge is a possible conflict spot, because skiers zooming down hills from both directions onto the bridge, will also have to contend with the usual horde of winter walkers coming and going on Fullerton, that trail now taking off to the left just after the crossing. It will be interesting to see how it all works out this winter. Regardless, I think a few caution signs are warrranted.
We also walked Elbow trail back from the Strange Brew intersection and discovered it had recently been widened in places and raised up with drainage ditches at the sides and across the trail itself. Bikers were having a tough time in the mud.
