Distance 18.2 km return, height gain 1036 m, strenuous
This is the brightly coloured peak at 214404 overlooking Sparrowhawk Creek Tarns and Red Ridge. In optimum conditions, meaning after August, it's a very easy climb from North Buller Pass.
Start: Via #77 Buller Pass at the forks.
Difficulty: East scramble. The most difficult section is the headwall up to North Buller Pass -- a wide band of orange scree and rubble. Earlier in the season, getting through the cornice that fringes the summit ridge could be a problem.
- Red Peak, left, and Red Basin.
