Gillean’s new volume covering the Sheep River west of Turner Valley also Gorge Creek and North Fork (Threepoint Creek). It’s available at most of the regular stores in the area, though I am not sure if MEC’s stock has arrived from their warehouse in Vancouver. At 240 pages and 73 trails, many with variations and opportunities to go further, there’s enough to keep you busy for a few years. Enjoy its black shale gorges, easy ridges and scramble summits. If you haven’t hiked in the Sheep, give it a try. From west Calgary, we make the Sandy McNabb area in about ninety minutes via 37 St. and Highway 22. If you live in south Calgary you can probably do it in an hour. Faster than going into the Kananaskis Valley.
So you have seen Vols 1, 2 & 4! What has happened to Vol 3? When Gill embarked on the series of 5 books she fully intended to produce the Canmore and Bow Valley book as the third one, and made references to it in the first volume. Because of the pace of construction and changes to trails around Canmore she decided to delay the Bow Valley guide and bring out Vol 4 Sheep River instead, in spite of the smoke coming from the publishers ears at the suggestion. It will come out alright in the end Don!
There won’t be any formal book launch. Anyone who contributed photos and information will be contacted and arrangements made to get a book to them.
