New editions of our Popular Day Hikes books have just been released in time for the hiking season. These re-designed guidebooks feature what we consider to be the most suitable hikes in Kanananaskis Country and the Canadian Rockies National Parks for hikers who are either new to or just visiting the area. The trails are popular and hikers are not likely to be alone, allaying the fears of visitors who are worried about bears. They have no major river crossings, and are either well-marked or well used so as to be obvious. Every trail has it’s own map, most of which have more information on them than the topo maps. Trails range from short to long and from easy to strenuous and are easily accessible from a road. They either start from parking lots marked on tourist maps or from trailheads that are easy to find. Gillean’s Popular Day Hikes in Kananaskis Country has been substantially revised and updated as there have been many changes to Kananaskis Country trails as a result of the 2013 flood. There are new parking lots, new bridges and some trails have been rebuilt. A few trails from the previous edition have been omitted and new ones that have become popular have been added.
Tony’s Popular Day Hikes in the Canadian Rockies has seen few changes as trails in the Mountain Parks suffered little damage in the 2013 flood. A few trail have received minor updates. The main issue for visitors is the parking situation at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, with Parks Canada experimenting with public transit and shuttle buses.
