The New West Meadow horse, snowshoe and winter walking trail

The first part of the trail meanders through forest and glades.

Another new route leaving West Bragg parking lot, this one heading west, hence its working name—its official name yet to be decided upon. The signage is finished though and the route is ready for you to try out. I think you’ll enjoy its slightly rolling mix of single track and logging roads travelling through meadows and open forest.

From the parking lot head out west on Snowy Owl snowshoe trail. After crossing Moose Connector ski trail and just before the climb into the first cutblock, turn right on a short trail leading to Mountain Road at the 2 km mark. Alternately, just follow Mountain Road.

Cross the road. Initially, “West”  horse trail proper meanders along below Mountain Road in the trees. Reach a logging road where the route starts a lollipop loop. Turn right and cross a very large meadow aiming for the tripod in the middle. On the far side the logging road continues on to Tom Snow trail at a 4-way. (At this point you are not far above the drop into Bragg Creek valley.)

On leaving the Tom Snow, the route heads back through trees below Mountain Road.

Where the route joins Mountain Road at the dip, the trail is separated out from the ski trail.

Looking back down the dip. This is where the route takes off again into the trees.

Turn left and follow the Tom Snow. Just before reaching Mountain Road, the route turns left and as single track travels below the road to the big dip where it joins the road briefly—but still separate from the ski trail—before once again traversing below the road back to the logging road. Go straight and return the same way or return via Snowy Owl Shortcut and West Crystal Line or any other variation if you want to make a longer day of it.

Distance return from parking lot 7.7 km

A friend and I checked this out today. What a nice walk. It was a bit tricky in places since there were no tracks in the snow but we figured it out. The tripod is now a monopod though! We also check out the Boundary trail and made a loop back to the parking lot on Boundary Ridge. Another nice trail. Thank you for bringing the trails to my attention.
