If your’e heading down to the Highwood early in the morning and need breakfast, call in at the Black Diamond Bakery & Coffee Shop for some fine Danish baking and a real deal on a cooked-to-order, high-protein breakfast that will keep you going for many hours.
In how may places can you get eggs, bacon, hash browns and thick toast for $5.65 or $3.95 if you only want one egg and less hash browns. On the back of the little menu are similar selections, but with pancakes instead of toast and hash browns. Drinks are regular coffee or a selection of teas. Order at the counter and have the meal delivered to your table. There are only about 8 tables and typically about half of them are taken, so it’s not suitable for a large group.
This busy, well-stocked little bakery has many kinds of freshly-baked breads, breakfast food such as muffins, bagels and croissants and an amazingly large selection of Danish pastries, cakes, cookies and meat pies.
The Black Diamond Bakery was founded in 1959 and was purchased by the present owners, George and Jytte Nielsen in 1985.
The Bakery & Coffee Shop is open Monday to Saturday 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. You will find it about 30 m west of the hotel, on the south side of the road leading to Turner Valley.

It’s one of our favourite meeting places when visiting with friends who live nearby. The selection of pastries is awesome. Always very hard to drive past the door without stopping!
Mmmmmm looks delicious! Next time I’m there I’ll check it out!
